Solomons Island Wedding | Glennis + Varun
Solomons Island Wedding with Frederick Wedding Photographer, Sarah Laughland
When the pandemic began, nobody could have predicted what this would mean for celebrations across the world. The way people have adapted to continue with life’s momentous occasions is nothing short of incredible. If I had to give thanks for one thing above all during this time, it would be the internet. We are so lucky! We have, at our fingertips, the ability to connect (when possible) across the world.
For Glennis and Varun’s Solomons Island wedding, this meant having over one hundred family members join their union through Zoom from all over the world. How freaking incredible is that?? Their wedding was special for so many reasons, the gift of Zoom being just one of them. It was an intimate wedding, only a few hours from start to finish, but with enough love to leave us all smiling for a full day afterwards.
The Newlyweds
Glennis and Varun look at one another with a fierce loyalty that I only hope to have one day. They are just good humans, through and through. I haven’t spent a ton of time with them, but I knew it the moment we met. I know Glennis through my brothers, and as a grad student in social work, she’s got a heart for supporting those who need supporting.
By the water, with a perfectly light breeze, they had their first look out on the dock! Varun’s reaction says it all, and I get the giddy chills looking back at their photos!
Every part of the ceremony, officiated by their friend Julia Jarvis, was intentional and special. Glennis lost her brother a few years ago, and this coming together of family was also honoring his memory. His painting stood behind them, and their wedding rings were held by a lizard jewelry box he had given Glennis. A perfect mixture of their two families, with Hindu traditions interwoven, the light waned on this perfect evening to tears and smiles.
Their Solomons Island wedding was held at the Back Creek Inn. Not far from the ceremony, Glennis’s aunt and uncle hosted a magnificent reception for 15 people! Catered by a local restaurant and lit up by a magical twinkly tree, the mood was sublime! And y’all? The key lime pie. It was the best dang thing pie I’ve ever tasted. I am not lying.
