Loch Raven Resevoir Maternity: Sonya + Alan

Maryland Maternity Photographer

When Sonya suggested Loch Raven Resevoir for her Maryland maternity session, I immediately googled it and added it to the list of repeat locations. The list has obviously grown this year, but sometimes it’s a “maybe again” and sometimes it’s a “most definitely, heck yes”. We hadn’t even had our session yet and I knew it was going to be gorgeous. Just outside Baltimore, it feels like you’re entering Canadian woodland area. With the insulated cloudy day we were having, the effect was quite dramatic and cinematic. We even lucked out and met some very kind ducks who wanted to pose in the background for us. 🙂

The Family

Sonya, Alan, and I share a few friends, knowing them in different stages of their life. I went to high school with this particular couple in common. We all took intro to acting together and you can see their maternity session here! Sonya and Alan ended up meeting them in college and became dear friends! I adore how small this world is, and it’s even better getting to work with clients who all know and love each other!

Loch Raven Resevoir

We arrived to a blustery day, with the lake and woods as our backdrop, and not too many visitors roaming the area. Alan runs a watch company called Tsao Baltimore, so we obviously had to incorporate that into their session!

One of my favorite things is appreciating the serious and more posed moments, and a moment later inviting in laughter. They bounced between the two flawlessly. We wanted to capture the essence of the weather’s dramatics, while maintaining true to who they are as a couple! Sonya’s emerald dress looks STUNNING, and we opted for a second casual look.

Sarah is wonderful! It's not just that she takes beautiful photos (which she obviously does!) - she is wonderfully communicative, sharp as a tack, and flexible. I had a delightful headshot/branding session with her.

I also coordinated a wedding where Sarah was the photographer and she was INCREDIBLE. A great wedding photographer requires stamina, a generous spirit, a head on a swivel, and a great eye for candid moments. She captured the spirit of the day in gorgeous images. The happy couple was so pleased!
