It was a grand day at The Barns at Chip Ridge. There’s this human thing where we automatically can sense meaning. We know whether smiles and laughs are fake or real. And usually we reciprocate on this scale of largess in smiles and laughter. 

I will never forget seeing Derrick’s face, and watching him smile for an entire hour-long mass as he married his beautiful love. 

Rainy wedding days are usually something people dread, even though they are known for good luck! But nonetheless, it can throw a wrench in the works. Saturday morning was sunny, but we all knew rain was a’coming later that afternoon, we just didn’t know when. It began raining just as the ceremony began, as the wind picked up and so did the tent a few times! This could have been a recipe for high emotions, but you know what? I’ve never seen an entire group of people treat a soaking wet wedding with more grace. It was a true testament to why they were there: and unconditionally loving partnership. 

I met Jacque and Derrick a few years back through the local farming and “young people” community in Southwest Virginia. In small towns it’s easy to connect the dots between everyone you know and it was very difficult to leave in 2019. The communal feeling of trust and love is one that cannot be matched. Jacque and Derrick were surrounded by such a community on this day, and it took all hands to make it happen.

Everyone pitching in (literally to pitch a tent), decorations and silverware put out by the wedding party, everyone took a part. Delicious food and drink by Harvest Table Restaurant and Abingdon Vineyards, with local bands like Fritz & Co and Wolf Hills Jazz Quartet playing!

It was a magical day for all, intimate as it was. A brilliant sliver of orange and pink swirls opened up to us in the sky and I literally gasped. I yelled for Derrick and Jacque to put down their drinks, and they ran out barefoot, to capture it! 

I am continuously grateful to have met these two and this community, so enjoy this small town wedding day of Jacque & Derrick Von Kundra. Check out more beautiful days on the blog!

Sarah is wonderful! It's not just that she takes beautiful photos (which she obviously does!) - she is wonderfully communicative, sharp as a tack, and flexible. I had a delightful headshot/branding session with her.

I also coordinated a wedding where Sarah was the photographer and she was INCREDIBLE. A great wedding photographer requires stamina, a generous spirit, a head on a swivel, and a great eye for candid moments. She captured the spirit of the day in gorgeous images. The happy couple was so pleased!

You should hire her. Trust me on this. You should totally hire her.
