DC Dancer | Lexis Firestone
Maryland Dance Photographer photoshoot with DC Dancer
On this cloudy and rainy day, with DC dancer Lexis Firestone, we embraced the moodiness with open arms! It’s no surprise that dance photoshoots are up among my favorite things to capture. They are difficult in so many different ways, but having the vocabulary and experience to support dancers is my pride and joy!
DC Dancer
Lexis and I met while performing at Imagination Stage in 2019. She’s a diverse dancer, incredibly focused and driven, and has a huge heart! She became like a younger sister, and I feel grateful to have danced alongside her! She now bounces between performing in musical theatre shows, teaching, and as a modern dancer. She’s danced with Bowen McCauley Dance and got her Bachelor of Fine Arts in dance performance and choreography from George Mason University.
Lexis is a dancer who cuts through the air with precision. I learned a lot from her about maintaining and balancing force, so getting to watch her improv was a treat!
The Session
We headed to Gaithersburg fairgrounds to begin. Though we couldn’t enter the actual grounds, the drive leading up to it presents a giant mural of farmers. The colors melded well with Lexis’ purple and black leotard and offered a fascinating backdrop! We found a nearby park to end the day in, and the white barn that greeted us as we arrived became our best friend. Gotta love a neutral background, ya know?
For the last photos, I used the high beams of my car and directed Lexis to move in and out of the light. I have this strange aversion to actually creating a studio, so I like to use found lighting in unique and somewhat unconventional ways. I do believe it worked to our advantage, and we sure had a blast playing around!
