Belly Dancer Photoshoot
Anam Cara Dance is a belly dance studio in Frederick, Maryland. Led by Lindsey McCormick, she teaches the history and tenants of belly dance and invigorates students by allowing for ultimate self expression. She and I believe that dance is for everyone. I believe that dance is in our souls, and if we possess a gift to teach, it’s up to us to spread that joy.
Lindsey came to me looking for a portrait experience that was both for empowerment during a wild year and a branding session opportunity. Like I say often, wild ideas are my JAM, and I was thrilled to get to work with her!
The Session
We chose downtown Frederick for its many nooks and crannies and side streets. Starting on East Church Street, we found a KILLER wall of leaves, which were just the perfect shade of orange. We strolled down the street, meeting other families and photographers along the way.
Side note–I love seeing other sessions going on. It’s like a little head nod and chance to say “awesome work, colleague, let’s kick this session”. Anyways, I digress…
We stumbled upon a little courtyard behind a church, and noticing a big and bold tree, Lindsey let her veil take flight! These are some of favorites…
Onward we went, to the top of the Church Street parking deck! The sunset did NOT disappoint, as we closed in on outfit details. (more details about her stunning outfits at the end!)
We ended the day after sunset, setting up a few makeshift lights. Lindsey is not only a belly dancer, but a lighting designer and healthcare worker. Do her talents know no bounds? As you can guess, she’s a pretty awesome human being and I cannot wait to work with her again for another belly dancer photoshoot! OH, and costume details below…
